Westerville South Basketball Player Died Of Natural Causes
The county coroner says a natural heart-related issue killed a central Ohio high school basketball player who collapsed after practice last week.
Dr. Jan Gorniak, the Franklin County coroner, issued the opinion on the death of 17-year-old Christopher Randolph. He fell to his knees after a Westerville South team practice Dec. 11 and died later at a hospital.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Gorniak did not elaborate on the cause of the death and plans to study it further.
Varsity coach Ed Calo said nothing on Randolph's team medical forms indicated a problem. He'd had gone through practices and camps all year.
The school's athletic office is taking donations to help his family.
