Westerville Police Warn Residents Of Telephone Scam

Investigators say a resident was scammed out of $5,000 by someone claiming be the resident's grandchild.

According to police, a scammer pretending to be the victim's grandchild called and asked for money to be wired to the Philippines because he had been involved in a traffic crash.

Police say the resident wired the cash, but was informed by an employee of the store where the funds were wired that it was more than likely a scam.

The resident told police the grandchild was contacted and was located safely in the United States.
