Volunteers of America is launching Operation Backpack to make sure students go back to school with the supplies they need.

The organization is asking the community to donate a backpack full of supplies that will go to children in need.

According to statistics, one in 35 children in the city of Columbus is actually homeless or has experienced homelessness.

The need is great to get supplies to those children, so they are able to start school, ready to go.

Operation Backpack goes through Aug. 11.

Anyone wanting to donate can drop off supplies at area Volunteers of America sites and at Columbus Metropolitan Library locations.
