A victim was expected to recover after a shooting in southeast Columbus.

It happened around 12:15 Thursday morning on Downing Drive near Refugee Road.

Police said 23-year-old Tyler K. Goins parked his vehicle outside a friend's house on Downing Drive.

Before he went inside, police said a gray van stopped in the road. The driver of that vehicle got out and started shooting, hitting Goins in the face.

Goins was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition but was expected to survive.

A bullet also hit a gas meter, and caused a small gas leak.

The leak was quickly contained.
