Troopers Investigate 2-Vehicle Fatal Crash

A man was pronounced dead after an early morning crash Monday.

According to the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Shadd E. Shaffer, 34, was driving south on state Route 117 in his straight truck when James M. Payer, 38, ran a stop sign heading west on County Road 96
and was struck by the straight truck.

Payer, of Ridgeway, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shaffer was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontanie with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers said that Payer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation.
