Trial Begins For Ex-Pickerington Football Star Accused Of Rape

A judge heard opening arguments in a trial for a man who once committed to play football for Ohio State University.

Roger Lewis Jr., 19, is charged with two counts of rape in connection with two alleged encounters with a then 18-year-old woman, one in December 2011 and another in January 2012.

Much of the testimony on Wednesday revolved around the clash of cultures between Lewis, an African Americans and the alleged victim, who is Asian American.

“The victim said she was very concerned about going home and facing her parents,” said Dan Smith, the former assistant principal of Pickerington Central High School. “The mom’s reaction, she dropped to the ground in a fetal position, crying very loudly, uncontrollably.”

Lewis, who was a former Pickerington Central High School football star, had verbally committed to play football for the Buckeyes in 2012.
