Cleveland Police are trying to identify a mother who left her two children at a Salvation Army shelter Wednesday.

Police said the woman left her three year old and three week old at the Harbor Light shelter in the 1700 block of Prospect Avenue. It happened around 2:00 a.m. after the shelter provided the woman with a room.

Workers found the babies by themselves seven hours later.

The children were taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital for evaluation. They will be placed in custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Police think the woman checked in to the facility and gave the shelter false names for the children.

It's unclear why she left them. The mother faces child endangering charges when she is identified.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Cleveland Division of Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit at 216-623-5630, or 216-696-kids.
