Thousands Of People Wake Up Without Power Tuesday
Thousands of people woke up in the dark Tuesday morning.
AEP said the more than 9,500 outages in Franklin county and more than 300 outages in Licking County were due to a transmission equipment failure, that could have been caused by rain and snow falling in the area. The largest area impacted was southeast Columbus. Power went out around 2:30 a.m. and was completely restored shortly after 8:00 a.m.
The outage impacted patients at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, which was mostly in the dark. Medical staff was going room to room to make sure patients were safe. A hospital representative said no patients were transported to other area hospitals. The power was returned to the entire hospital by 6:30 a.m.
The outage was also affected traffic lights on East Broad Street.
