Thieves took advantage of a security weakness to break into multiple garages.

Thieves broke through a wall of a connected garage building along Bay Run Drive at the West Bay Apartments on the southwest side.

Some tenants lost thousands of dollars worth of tools and audio equipment.

“I still have to look through to see what all they took,” said one resident of the complex who wished not to be identified.

Detectives said that they knew of about three garages that were struck by thieves at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators were hoping fingerprints and other evidence would lead to the people responsible

“It’s not fair,” the resident said. “We work for this stuff, and then stuff like this happens.

The resident said that he soon would be searching for a new place to live.

“I don’t feel safe,” the man said. “I’m planning to move after this.”

Those at the apartment complex said that the most recent incident was not the first time garages have been broken into.
