Teens Charged With Clerk's Murder Now Face Additional Charges For 17-Year-Old's Shooting Death

A Columbus murder suspect appeared in a courtroom on Tuesday morning, while his co-defendant was returned to Columbus.

Nathaniel Brunner, 18, was ordered held on a $1.5 million bond.

Devonere Simmonds, 17, was driven back from Dayton.

Brunner and Simmonds are accused of killing Imran Ashgar. Ashgar was the clerk at a corner store on East Livingston Avenue.

According to police, Simmonds shot Ashgar in the face around 11 p.m. on July 24. Brunner allegedly acted as the lookout.

The two teens are now also charged with murder in connection with the July 25 shooting death of 17-year-old Lamont Fraizer.

Both teens are also suspected in a shooting and carjacking at a Madison County TA Travel Center early Saturday morning.

William Rudd was shot in the head while pumping gas. Police said the two suspects wanted to steal his car. Rudd was travelling from Iowa back home to Virginia when he was attacked. He is currently at Grant Medical Center in serious condition.

The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a trooper, Sgt. Jeffrey Shane, who apparently picked up Brunner and Simmonds along the highway on Saturday and drove them to the gas station. Shane is on administrative leave.

The teens were found sleeping in the stolen car behind a home in Dayton.

Police are also investigating to see if the pair could be tied to several other homicides in Columbus.

Police believe Simmonds may be involved in a July 22 murder of a 22-year-old man.
