Teen Accused Of Fatally Shooting His Father In Scioto County
Authorities arrested a 14-year-old boy and charged with killing his father inside their Scioto County home.
Investigators responded to a 911 call from a person who said the teen had just arrived at his house, saying he had shot his father.
The boy is described as a good kid who is very involved in extracurricular activities.
But investigators say an ongoing issue between the 14-year-old and his father, 48-year-old Michael Riley, started up again Sunday afternoon and detectives say the boy told them, he just snapped.
"He says there was a pattern of being verbal assaults towards him and his real mother, who doesn't live in the house but, making comments about him and his mother,” said Captain David Hall with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
Captain David Hall says yesterday afternoon the two were the only ones home when the teen says the arguing started.
“He reached his breaking point and shot his dad,” said Hall.
Hall says the Sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a home on Junior Road, in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. The caller stated that the teen showed up at his house stating that he had shot his father.
Investigators say he went to that house because he didn’t know his neighbors, but went to school with the teen who lives in that home.
“And being a young person, he rode his bicycle about four miles from his house to that house, “ said Capt. Hall.
The 14-year-old has been charged with one count of Murder, a first degree felony, and is being held in the juvenile detention center located in Ross county.
