S.W.A.T. Team Responds To Hostage Situation In North Columbus

Authorities were called out to a home in north Columbus early Saturday morning.

The S.W.A.T. team was negotiating with a man barricaded inside.

The standoff started just after midnight on east 2nd Avenue, on a report that a man inside had a knife.

Officers on the scene told 10TV that a man was holding his girlfriend hostage.

He refused to come outside or allow authorities inside the home.

The standoff ended around 3:30 a.m.

Authorities fired tear gas into the home to force the suspect and victim out.

Officers then took the man into custody.

Medics transported the woman to Grant Medical Center to be checked out.  There was no immediate word on her condition.
