Columbus police have charged a 19-year-old suspect with murder for the shooting death of a Westerville teenager.

A SWAT team arrested Anthony Monaco at his home along Perennial Lane in Powell early Thursday morning.

Investigators said Monaco's vehicle matched the description of the SUV seen leaving the scene of the shooting that happened Sunday morning.

Dinkisra “Dink” Mengistu, 19, from Westerville was shot just after 1 a.m. Sunday inside a car along Hutchinson Avenue, between the DoubleTree and Sheraton hotels.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We were really good friends. As high school went on, we kind of lost touch, but you know, that’s still my childhood friend,” said Blayre Moore.

Witnesses said the two teenagers attended the same party that night, and it's unlikely that they even knew each other.

Investigators say it appears the murder may have been a random act of violence, but authorities are still searching for a motive.

Monaco was taken to the Franklin County Jail.
