Stranger Pays For Christmas Gifts For Several Families
Seven families were counting their blessings after a man anonymously paid the balances on their holiday shopping layaway accounts on Saturday.
Doreen Adams said she met the man at the Kmart layaway counter and couldn't believe what he was doing for her.
"Honestly, I thought I was going to pass out. I was shaking," Adams said.
"And this guy came out of nowhere and said he was Santa Claus, and he was going to pay the rest of my layaway. And he stepped in front of me, swiped his card, and I was like, in shock. My daughter's standing there. She's in tears," Adams said.
The man wasn't dressed as St. Nick. Adams said he was wearing blue jeans, a t-shirt and tennis shoes when he paid her $69 balance.
"It's amazing. I can't believe it really happened," Adams said.
Bambie Beswick described benefiting from a table full of gifts worth about $200.
"It came at a perfect time because it's been a little rough lately with things happening with deaths and different things. And it made my year," Beswick said.
The secret Santa paid balances for five other families before he was done.
The store manager said someone has step forward in a similar fashion in the past.
"Last year, there were a couple requests looking for layaways about to go delinquent or ones who had an awful lot of items for kids - just somebody looking for a random act of kindness," manager Rich Lisko said.
"It's amazing. I can't believe it really happened," Adams said. "But it really did happen. So, I'm extra thankful this year for this gentleman who did this for me."
