Stefanie Spielman’s Celebrate Life Ohio State Tailgate Party To Benefit Cancer Research
You can watch the Buckeyes play this weekend and support a great cause at the same time.
Stef’s Celebrate Life Tailgate is Saturday and will raise money to benefit the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center.
Phaedra Edwards said she is more than happy to carry the torch for her friend.
“She left us with this job to continue to fight to beat breast cancer,” Edwards said.
Spielman fought breast cancer with courage and heart until the disease took her in 2009, but her spirit is still strong.
So, to celebrate it, people who knew and loved Stefanie will once again throw a tailgate of all tailgates.
There will be big TVs to watch the OSU game and lots of food and fun for the kids.
Friends say that the party screams Stefanie.
“It’s being together, it’s coming together, having fun and celebrating life,” Edwards said.
Organizers hope to raise enough money to cover the cost of a new ultrasound machine for the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center.
The technology can find cancer at its earliest stage of growth and helps doctors, said Dr. William Farrar, the director of the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center.
“(It helps doctors) to determine if this is something we should biopsy and pay attention to,” he said.
The ultrasound often backs up the mammogram, and to have another one will allow for more screenings and to serve patients more quickly.
“It gives us the opportunity to fulfill our mission of getting everything done on the same day,” Farrar said.
He said it cuts the wait and worry time for many patients.
Friends said that would make Stefanie smile.
“She’d be over the moon,” Edwards said.
The tailgate is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Matt and Claire Hamilton’s house on Cambridge Boulevard on Upper Arlington.
