S.R. 315 Reopens After Hanging Wires Blocked Road Since Friday
Residents and commuters said on Thursday that they were glad to see AEP Ohio workers attack a downed power line along state Route 315 near Powell Road.
Crews began work on Thursday on the downed power line that has blocked state Route 315, between Jewett Road and state Route 750, since Friday.
Crews were able to reopen the road at about 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Roger McBride, who lives along the blocked portion of road, drove by to take a look.
“I’m glad to see the electric company’s here today, because it was apparently just one tree over one line for this whole time,” McBride said. “I wonder why it took so long, but they’re busy.”
Tens of thousands of drivers were forced through the Village of Powell.
“We have a lot of people antsy, you know, trying to get in, saying, ‘When is it going to open, when is it going to open?’” said Josh Hickle of the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Liberty Township Fire Chief Tim Jensen said that S.R. 315 is a primary route for emergency crews.
“Primarily for transportation for medical patients to Riverside and Dublin Methodist Hospital,” Jensen said. “But we have other routes that we can take so, has it posed a challenge? A little bit but we’re used to dealing with challenges and work around it.”
ODOT officials said that they were taking advantage of the road being closed to trim bushes along the side of the road, pave part of the berm and clean storm drains that carry water into the rivers.
