Special Magician Helps Provide Visual Experience For Deaf, Mute Woman Who Turned 100

It's a special birthday for a woman who has seen quite a lot in her lifetime.

Westerville resident Lillie Jones is celebrating her 100th birthday today. Family and friends gathered with Lillie for a party this afternoon at Columbus Colony Nursing Home.

Her daughter said Lillie has been looking forward to celebrating with a party with her close family.

“She's really just expecting to see me and maybe just a couple of relatives. She's not expecting the magician at all. This is going to be a really big surprise,” said Mary Shelton, Lillie’s daughter.

Shelton said the magician is to help her mother participate in the festivities.

Lillie was born deaf and mute, and the special magician helps provide a visual experience for the centenarian.

She was born in North Carolina in 1913. When she wanted to marry her husband, they had to move to Michigan because he was white and she is black and North Carolina wouldn't allow it.
