Some Orange Township Residents Oppose Adult-Only Hotel
Some Orange Township residents are fighting back against a plan to build an adult-only hotel in their neighborhood, but the operator of the proposed hotel says he plans to move forward with development.
Currently, the Belamere Suites is only in Perrysburg, Ohio, but the operator of the adult-only getaway says he wants to build another hotel off U.S. Route 23 in Orange Township.
Some are questioning the owner's choice of location.
“Why would you want to come into an area here with us that is just it is meant for kids? There is a library, a pool, a dentist, a daycare and a park, none of which speaks to adult-only activities,” said Dr. Sandra Boyle, the president and CEO of Pediatric Associates.
According to the township, the property the hotel operator is eyeing is right between her office and the Orange Township Park.
Boyle says it's not the fact a hotel might move in, but it's the adult-only classification that has her a little worried.
“It's my understanding there are no windows, private entrances into garages, things like that. So it seems a very secretive type of thing,” Boyle said.
10TV News spoke with the hotel's owner/operator John Kranjec about some of the residents' concerns including fears the hotel might rent rooms by the hour.
He told us there will be no short-period options. He is billing the hotel as a luxurious Couple's Getaway and says no one under 21 will be allowed to rent a room. He also pointed out the property is already zoned for a hotel.
According to Orange Township’s zoning administrator, the hotel’s operator submitted the development application and site plans Tuesday.
The president of the board of trustees said trustees would need to approve the plans prior to construction.
Several Orange Township residents announced Tuesday that they’ve formed a citizen action group to oppose the hotel and work with stakeholders to bring in businesses that are appropriate for the area.
