The Guernsey County Sheriff released additional information on Thursday about a murder-suicide involving a child.

According to the sheriff’s office, 36-year-old Russell Ball shot and killed his 5-year-old son, identified as Jacob Ball, sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday at 4 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a home on Piedmont Road in Cambridge Township shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday to conduct a well-being check on Ball.

Ball had made threats to harm himself on Tuesday night, sheriff’s officials said on the county’s website.

When deputies arrived at the home, they forced entry into the locked building and found that Ball had shot and killed Jacob and then himself with the same weapon.

Sheriff’s officials said that they were continuing to investigate.

The Licking County Coroner planned to conduct autopsies to confirm evidence collected at the scene.
