'Sexapalooza' Makes Columbus Its First Stop
A sex-themed convention made its way to Veterans Memorial on Friday.
According to show producer Liz Lewis, the event, Sexapalooza, which runs through Sunday, is much softer than adult movie conventions in places like Las Vegas.
"In fact, we don't have any porn stars here at all," Lewis said.
Sex is everywhere, though, 10TV's Josh Poland reported.
Lewis said that sexuality is presented in a safe and upscale way that includes entertainment, exhibitors and education.
"I think we've got eight different topics," Lewis said.
For the past five years, the event has toured Canada, attracting 12,100-15,000 people to each event, Poland reported.
Lewis said that they chose Columbus as the convention's first American destination because of the size of the city and because it contains a large university.
According to Franklin County Public Health officials, organizers of Sexapalooza contacted the health department and were adhering to rules.
Veterans Memorial officials said that they have had no complaints, Poland reported.
"I've never had anyone protest or demonstrate at any of my shows in the past, so I'm hoping that it doesn't happen here," Lewis said.
Organizers said that if all goes well, they would bring Sexapalooza back to Columbus in 2013.
