A proud, but also a bittersweet farewell was held for hundreds of local soldiers.

Members of the Army Reserve's 490th Signal Company,Tactical Installation Network Enhanced took part in a deployment ceremony in Westerville Sunday.

The men and women are being sent to Afghanistan for nine months as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Part of their job is to maintain and refurbish the existing communication network in the country.

Many family members are already looking forward to the day when they return.

"There's fear, there's anxiety, there's pride.  We'll just have to wait until he gets home," said Johanna Carder, mother of one of the soliders.

The soldiers had a time to spend some final moments with their loved ones, before leaving on their mission.
