Relatives Told 911 Operators That Man Confessed To Killing Father
Adam Runyons, Jr. appeared in court on Friday after he allegedly killed his father in Heath on Thursday.
The 32-year-old was arrested in Utica on Thursday after a large police search. He was found after trying to get into a school building.
He’s now accused of killing his 51-year-old father, Adam Runyons, Sr., with a machete.
The Runyon family says the son had a drug problem and had just gotten out of prison. Neighbors say they saw him leave his father's house on Thursday with his son and two dogs.
Runyons, Jr. later contacted relatives and told them he killed his father with a sword.
Maggie Gordon is a sister of the victim who called 911 from outside the Heath residence.
“I received a phone call while I was at work from my sister and my nephew called her and told her that he killed my brother. And this is my brother's house, I can't get him to answer the phone. Both doors are locked, I can't get in.”
Ruynons, Jr. had a history of run-ins with law enforcement officers.
It’s also not the first time the family has experienced tragedy. Relatives say Runyons, Sr. has been raising his 4-year-old alone after his wife died shortly after child birth. Runyon's Jr's 2-year-old daughter, Jocelyn, was murdered last October. Her mother's boyfriend Daniel Hall is accused of shaking the child to death.
His bond was set at $2 million.
