A day after WBNS-10TV reported on a number of battery thefts in Chillicothe, it appears similar crimes are occurring in Columbus.

In Chillicothe, more than 20 battery thefts were reported from vehicles since September.

WBNS-10TV has uncovered that over the weekend in Franklin County, 31 batteries were reported stolen.

The Columbus Truck and Equipment Company on East 5th Avenue was one location that was hit.

"We ended up missing 19 batteries from 10 different trucks. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense because the market for used batteries is not all that high," said service manager Gary Michael.

The value of those missing batteries is around $2,300.

The criminals accessed the battery compartments and cleanly removed battery after battery.

Twelve batteries were also taken from six vehicles at the Central Ready Mix Company on Truro Station Drive in east Columbus. That's an estimated $1,200 in batteries.

It's not known if the latest thefts are connected to the crimes in Chillicothe, but investigators are taking a close look at the cases.
