'Puppy Mill' Bill Signed Into Law By Kasich
Gov. John Kasich signed a bill into law on Thursday that establishes new regulations on the care and treatment of animals housed in large-scale establishments.
The law also distinguishes the facilities from traditional dog kennels.
The bill creates an advisory board to provide guidance on care standards for the facilities. It allows the director of the state's agriculture department to contract with local veterinarians to conduct inspections.
The law will require animal rescue groups to register with the state.
The ceremonial signing of the legislation was held Thursday morning at the Capital Area Humane Society.
