Prosecutor Puts Brakes On Plan For Franklin County To Contribute To Delaware County Project
The Franklin County Prosecutor has ruled that a resolution to give $150,000 to help promote a Delaware County event was not legal.
Franklin County Prosecutors drafted a resolution to give the money to the Greater Columbus Sports Commission to help promote the 2013 Presidents Cup golf tournament to be held at the Murifield Village Golf Club.
The Presidents Cup is a four-day PGA tournament and is slated to bring big-name pro golfers and millions of dollars worth of business and taxes to central Ohio.
“The money would be used to promote the Presidents Cup, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here in central Ohio to gain people and even viewership throughout the world, to promote our incredible central Ohio community,” said Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks.
The vote on the resolution was tabled so lawyers could find a legal way to give the money to the Greater Columbus Sports Commission.
O’Brien said that the commission may be able to authorize the money under the county’s advertising budget to promote tourism through the Greater Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau.
