Proposed Apartment Complex Clears Hurdle

Columbus City Council approved the zoning of an apartment complex on South Old State Road on the far north side of Columbus.

Some residents oppose the development.

The developer is trying to build a 38-unit complex just south of Polaris Parkway.

The Columbus Development Commission denied the zoning request, but city council will vote on the plan Monday night.

Some residents in nearby subdivisions say 38 apartments on property that is about 140 feet wide, is too crowded.

"Everyone who has looked at this says it is way too urban," said Meredith Brown, a resident opposed to the plan. "It is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, so we are just hoping the city takes all of that into consideration when they make their decision tonight."

The attorney for the developer says his client's plan is below the recommended density for the property.
