Preparations Continue For Race For the Cure

Volunteers for the annual Race For The Cure packed shirts, race bibs and programs on Thursday in preparation for the May 18 event.

The items will be distributed next week.

Komen Columbus said they couldn't pull off one of the largest Races in the country without volunteer help.

"When I was going into seventh grade, I was getting ready for my bat mitzvah, and you always do a service project for that.  And, I had already done Race For The Cure for a couple years. and I figured I might as well do behind the scenes and go and help. So my mom and I went to one of the malls and stuffed all the packets in one of the bags and things like that, and I've just kind of been looking for more opportunities to get involved here," said Shana Marks.

"When my wife got diagnosed, it's just a pool of people that get involved, help each other out, it's just a great cause," said Stan Mansfield.

This year, both racers and walkers will be asked to wear race bibs over their shirts, so if anything happens, emergency workers will be able to quickly identify participants who are injured or ill.
