Powell Resident Catches Man Breaking Into Home

A Liberty Township man took matters into his own hands after catching an alleged thief in the act.

Steve Meszaros said that he confronted a burglar at his parents’ home, located along West Powell Road, shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

He said that he thought a “for sale” sign in front of the home enticed the man to enter the home.

Meszaros said that he was sleeping upstairs when he heard a window break.

He said that was when his adrenaline kicked in.

Meszaros said that he grabbed a knife and walked downstairs and forced the man out the door to his vehicle. Meszaros said that the man started his vehicle, described as an older model green four-door vehicle with damage to one of the headlights, with a screwdriver. Deputies said that they believed the vehicle was stolen.

“Basically, I walked him through the hole that he broke in and all the way out to his car, forced him into his car,” Meszaros said. “He backed up and tried to run me over, but I just got out of the way.”

The man was described as a white man in his 40s with facial hair and bad teeth. He was wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans when he fled in the older green vehicle, with partial license plate No. F?V-35?7.

“Basically, I surprised him before he could do anything,” Meszaros said.
