A large yacht stopped traffic on Interstate 270 north near Main Street on the east side Wednesday evening.

Police said that they stopped the driver that was towing the yacht because they believed he would not be able to clear the overpass.

Authorities stopped traffic for about 15 minutes as they turned the yacht around to exit the highway.

Police said that the driver went off his designated route. Those with large loads are required to have a permit and are issued a specific route to follow.

Police said that the driver was supposed to exit I-270 at Main Street, but he kept going.

Police said the driver was going to be cited.

The yacht was parked in Columbus overnight so a new permit and route could be issued.
