Columbus homicide detectives are looking for a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened early Wednesday morning.

The suspect, who police asked 10TV News not to identify, is wanted after officers said that he opened fire near 537 Helen Street, killing one man around midnight.

"It was like really, really big gunshots, and it was like six to seven of them," said neighbor Bishro Osman.

Investigators said the shooting happened after a group of men gathered in an alley along that block and began to argue just before midnight. Willis L. Crigger, 46, died at Mount Carmel West hospital from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

"I was scared," said Osman. "We all have families, and we all have little kids around here."

Authorities were questioning several people who may have witnessed the deadly shooting. Investigators said there were casings at several different locations, so they believe there was definitely an exchange of fire. They expect more than one person to be charged with involvement in the shooting.

Police said that they believe the shooting was not drug related.

They continue to look for the person of interest that witnesses described.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Columbus police at 614-645-4545.
