Police Say Missing 16-Year-Old Could Be In Danger
An Amber Alert was issued Wednesday night for a 16-year-old girl police said might be in danger.
According to family members, Mikayla McBroom was reported missing Saturday after her mother dropped her off at a friend’s house to spend the night Friday.
Police said that they believed McBroom’s disappearance could have started as a runaway situation, 10TV’s Glenn McEntyre reported.
McBroom’s mother, Bridgette Lucas, said that her daughter’s friend told her that McBroom left with a man in a car.
Lucas said that she received a call from her daughter on Sunday night.
“She sounded afraid and asked me if I was home by myself,” Lucas said. “I tried to get out of her what was going on. ‘Is somebody listening to your call? Is someone listening to you talk to me?’ She said, ‘somewhat,’ and she kept trying to assure me she was OK, but it didn’t sound like she was OK.”
McBroom told Lucas that she would be home in 30 minutes but never showed, McEntyre reported.
Lucas said that she then received frightening text messages about her daughter.
“The next thing I receive was texts to my phone from her phone basically telling me she had been harmed,” Lucas said. “(They said) that somebody put her in a car. The story changed a couple of times. That they had dropped her off, that they were sorry.”
Police describe McBroom as 5 feet 3 inches tall, 180 pounds with dark skin, brown eyes and brown hair, could be in danger.
Police said on Wednesday night that McBroom may have been abducted and taken to southeast Florida.
“This is my only child,” Lucas said. “If somebody knows where she is or if anybody has seen her, I just want her to be home safe. Regardless of anything that has gone on, I just want her home.”
Anyone with information about McBroom is asked to call the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545.
