Authorities have released new information on a man shot at a Madison County Travel Center.

Police say William Rudd was headed home to Virginia after a high school reunion in Iowa when he was shot.

Authorities say Rudd was pumping gas when two suspects tried to steal his car.

They say Rudd put up a fight and was shot in the head.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Rudd is the sole parent to a young son.

He was still being treated at Grant Medical Center on Monday, and is listed in serious condition.

His family reportedly traveled to Columbus to be with him.
