Police Officer Crashes Cruiser While Searching For Suspect

Columbus Police were investigating what cause an officer to crash his cruiser early Tuesday morning.

The cruiser crash just before midnight along Woodcrest road, near Brinwood Place.

Police said the officer was trying to get to an area they thought they spotted a suspects vehicle.

While driving through the neighborhood, the officer crashed into a utility pole.

The officer had gotten out of the vehicle without injury by the time medics arrived on the scene.

The officer was still taken to the hospital as a precaution, but is expected to be okay.

Woodcrest Road was closed while workers repaired damage done to the utility pole, but was reopened shortly before 4:00 a.m.

The burglary suspect police were searching for was eventually caught a short time later.
