Police: Newark Mother Wanted For Taking Baby Turns Self In

A young mother accused of kidnapping her 6-month-old daughter is in police custody.

Newark police confirmed that Amanda Jordan turned herself in to police on Tuesday night.

Jordan, who was released from jail last Thursday, is accused of taking her daughter, Nicayla Jordan, last week, prior to Licking County Children Services taking custody of the baby.

According to the baby's maternal grandmother, Jordan was in jail when Children Services told her they planned to take custody of the child. The grandmother said that she gave the child to the father's mother, not knowing about the intentions of Children Services.

The paternal grandmother said that the baby never was in her care.

The baby's maternal grandmother and aunt were arrested on charges on interfering with child custody.

A felony kidnapping warrant was issued for Amanda Jordan.
