A 78-year-old woman was shoved and robbed in a Gahanna Kroger on Saturday afternoon.

Police said that at least one man came up behind the woman, who 10TV only identified as Clara, shoved her and took her wallet from her purse at the store, located on South Hamilton Road.

The man then allegedly drove to a Walgreens store, located at East Broad Street and Interstate 270, and used the Clara’s credit card.

The man bought Macy's gift cards with the stolen credit card.

Surveillance video shows the man was driving an older model green Toyota Camry.

According to police, the man tried to buy another gift card at a Reynoldsburg Walgreens store, but the card had been cancelled.

Clara said that she has never experienced anything like the incident and now is afraid to shop by herself.

“All of a sudden, I felt this hit on the shoulder, and I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, what was that?’ And I turned around to look, and this guy was just this far from me,” Clara said.

Clara said that she was shopping for soup when one, maybe two men, startled her from behind with a shove.

“It was very hard, (he) hit me very hard,” Clara said. “I guess I should have yelled or screamed or something, but I thought it was just kids doing something or kids fighting.”

Clara said that she realized her purse had been stolen.

“I started looking for him, because I thought, ‘He’s got my wallet, he’s got all of my cards,’” Clara said. “I was just frightened.”

Clara said that she was not able to get a good look at the men but hoped that someone would recognize one of them caught on camera.

“He’s worthless to take money from older people like me who don’t have much income,” Clara said. “It’s not right.”

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to please contact the Gahanna Police Department at 614-342-4240.
