Police Investigating Hilliard Woman’s Death As Homicide
Police called a woman's death a homicide investigation after she was found dead in a Hilliard apartment Monday afternoon. According to police, the body of Terri Menendez was found in an apartment in the 2500 block of Westham Way off of Roberts Road at about 3 p.m.
Police initially went to the home for a wellbeing check and found Menendez dead and her son, Tyler Dunkle, 22, unconscious.
"This is a safe area." Neighbor Kristy Gardner said. "I don't think anything like this has happened in this neighborhood. That is why we moved to this area."
According to police on the scene, officers executed the wellbeing check because police received two calls, one from Menendez's employer and one from a relative, about not being able to contact her.
Menendez was found dead in an upstairs bedroom. Dunkle was found in a separate bedroom.
Dunkle found inside of the home was hospitalized and was under guard, officials said. Police said he was unresponsive Monday night.
"He is unresponsive and he can't speak. As of this time, we have been unable to talk to him and make a determination of what happened at this residence." Said Hilliard Police Chief Doug Francis.
"I know we've had a lot of questions from the neighbors about safety and concern in the neighborhood at this present time we don't see any need for extra calls of alarm simply because of some of the things we've learned on the investigation." Said Chief Francis.
Chief Francis said they are considering this an isolated incident.
Police said that they last responded to the home in October on a disturbance call involving the mother and son.
