Police Identify Woman, 52, Who Died After Crashing Into Pond

Columbus police said a 52-year-old woman died after her car was driven into a pond.

Officials said the car was found in a pond near Cracker Cove Lane and Shannon Road in southeast Columbus late Friday.

Witnesses said that a woman, identified as Denise A. Damon, skidded off the road and into the pond at about 10:30 p.m.  One witness said that several people tried to save the woman but were unable to do so on their own.

Dive crews were on the scene at about 11 p.m.  Investigators said it took the divers at least an hour before they could reach the woman, who was taken to Grant Medical Center.  She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The crash was under investigation.
