Police say they have found the vehicle that struck a young father and left him brain dead.

Elijah Smith, 21, was struck by a vehicle early July 3, while riding his bike near Woodland and Woodward avenues in east Columbus. The driver did not stop.

Smith was declared brain dead two days after the crash. He remains on life support at a hospital due to a legal issue over the donation of his organs.

Authorities said they have now recovered the vehicle involved in the crash.

Investigators said the car is a 2004 Volkswagen owned by a Columbus woman. Detectives have not yet determined who was behind the wheel that morning.

Smith became a father just 13 days before the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact police at 614-645-4767.
