An eyewitness told police she heard pounding early Saturday morning, then saw three people attempt to steal a car when he went to investigate.

Zan Savage said she knew something wasn't right out on the street when she saw a woman standing outside a car with two men inside.

"I couldn't imagine somebody pounding so loudly, drawing so much attention if they were actually stealing a car, which it turns out they had done," Savage said.

Savage said that the first vehicle stalled in the 400 block of Arden Road. She told police that the trio could not restart the car and proceeded to a house next door.

Edwin Kinschner said that was when the three got into his wife's car and drove it through a fence and across a neighboring yard.

"They knocked that post down. They just blasted through the fence," Kinschner said.

He and his wife spent Saturday afternoon cleaning up their yard.

Police found the Kinschner's car abandoned east of Interstate 71. The windshield and rear window were both smashed.

The couple said they were encouraged by talk of a new block watch in their neighborhood to alert people of other crimes.
