Police struck a robbery suspect with a vehicle, fired a gun at him, and finally had to use a Taser in a crowded dance studio to bring him into custody Thursday night.

It all happened in a store front at Lazelle Road and North High Street at about 6:30 p.m.

Authorities said it started when a robbery suspect who was under surveillance tried to rob a Bureau of Motor Vehicles office. SWAT officers said the suspect spotted them and started to flee.

The suspect was pursued and he was hit by a police vehicle trying to apprehend him. The impact threw the suspect into another officer.

At that point there was a confrontation, and the suspect continued to try to get away. An officer fired a shot at him, but the suspect was not hit.

The suspect then went into the Footsteps Family Dance Center which was full of children. Officers said they were able to use a Taser and take him into custody at that point.

Chopper 10 captured multiple officers and law enforcement officials near the scene at a dance studio in a shopping center on Dillmont Drive.
The officer who was struck by a vehicle was not seriously hurt.

The name of the suspect was not released.
