Police Capture Man Who Escaped Police Custody In Newark

Police say they have captured a wanted man who escaped in handcuffs on Wednesday.

Christopher Williams of Newark was wanted on an assault charge.

Newark police apprehended Williams at the University Inn on West Church Street.

He ran away from officers on Wednesday morning when they tried to take him into custody.

Officers had stopped Williams, who gave them a false name. Officers also saw a Columbus Division of Police jacket in the back of Williams’ vehicle.
