Police Arrest Columbus School Bus Driver Accused Of Driving Bus Drunk

Columbus police have arrested a Columbus City Schools bus driver accused of driving drunk with children on board.

Police said Tia Denton, 51, is charged with OVI, Child Endangering and an open container violation.

Police said they were notified by the Columbus City School District that Denton was 1 to 2 hours late dropping off kids from Southwood Elementary School this afternoon.

Officers said the school district activated the GPS on the bus and noticed Denton missing stops.

A witness also reported seeing the bus driving erratically.

Officers stopped the bus in the area of Parsons and Crowley in south Columbus and arrested Denton.

There were two children on the bus at the time of the stop. They were not injured.

A CCS Spokesperson said Denton has been a bus driver for less than a year.
