It may only be February, but financial experts say now is the time to start thinking about your holiday budget.

The American Research Group reported in 2016 that shoppers planned to spend, on average, $929 on gifts.

There are ways to start saving now to put a dent in that spending.

Mary Hoover with 'Mission: to Save' says if you save pennies on the dollar, you could save $667.95 in a year.

Day one of saving, place one penny in a jar. Day two would mean saving two pennies. Day 100 would be $1.00. By adding one penny each day, you can save $667.95 by the end of the year.

Hoover also suggests to save money by taking advantage of buy/sell sites, like Facebook, where you can list items for sale where you live and in surrounding areas.
