People Escape And Pets Rescued As Apartment Fire Spreads

People in a west Columbus apartment building had to run out of their homes because of an early Monday fire.

The fire started before 5 a.m. on Dakota Avenue at West Rich Street in Franklinton.

The fire started in one apartment, spread to the upper floors and to a neighboring apartment.

Several people were inside the five-to-six unit building.  Everyone made it out safely.

Pets trapped inside the building were rescued.

At least one apartment suffered serious damage.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
