Shoppers were evacuated from part of The Mall at Tuttle Crossing on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters said there were reports of smoke in an electrical room at Tuttle Mall. It was determined to be an electrical fire.

The source of the smoke appeared to be in the vault of the mall, near the Sears and J.C. Penneys stores.

Power was knocked out to at least part of the mall.

The evacuations began just before 4 p.m. According to fire officials, several people were stuck in elevators when the power went off and had to be rescued.

People were allowed to return to the mall by 5 p.m.

No injuries were immediately reported.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene. The cause of the electrical issues is under investigation.

Officials said that most of the inside of the mall would remain closed Friday evening, but the department stores would be open.
