Old Gravestones In Northeast Ohio Cemetery Damaged By Crash
Local officials say a half-dozen very old gravestones were broken or flattened when a driver suffering a medical problem lost control and crashed into part of a northeast Ohio cemetery with graves dating to the early 1800s.
The Vindicator reports officials in Liberty Township near Youngstown are trying to determine how to restore the gravesites damaged in the crash at the township-owned Church Hill Cemetery more than two weeks ago. That could prove difficult.
Former road superintendent Tim Monroe says there are no records for the damaged section of the cemetery, but the township could try to repair them. He says he's not sure if restoration is possible, or what the cost would be.
Township Trustee Jodi Stoyak says the relatives of the deceased are probably long gone.
