Ohio University Employee Opens Letter Containing White, Powdery Substance; Building Evacuated

The Legal Affairs and People's Bank sections of the West Union Street Office Center at Ohio University were evacuated on Thursday morning.

According to Ohio University, an employee opened an envelope received in the mail that contained a white, powdery substance.

Police evacuated the building and isolated the area.

OU Police Chief Andrew Powers said only around six employees had to be moved.

Police said they did not believe other areas of the building were affected.

According to police, officers were working with other authorities for assistance in identifying the power and the sender of the letter.

Police said they believed the incident was isolated incident.

The FBI had been called in to handle the investigation.
