The Ohio State University Medical Center will settle a claim with a Columbus woman over an emergency tracheostomy.

According to the Ohio Supreme Court, the medical center will pay Pamela F. Turner $550,000 after she underwent an emergency tracheostomy in July 2010.

The Supreme Court said that Turner told OSU personnel her history of difficult intubation and of previously being told to advise future anesthesiologists that she would require a fiber optic intubation.

According to a release from the Supreme Court, special precautions were not taken by the anesthesia team, and unsuccessful intubation attempts resulted in Turner becoming asystolic and flat lining.
