Ohio State Staff Member Robbed Inside Campus Building

Ohio State University police issued a campus-wide alert after a staff member was robbed by an armed man inside a building.

The robbery occurred at about 3:40 p.m. in a building located at 33 W. 11th Ave., 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

The building houses the university's Committee on Academic Misconduct, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Student Judicial Affairs, Parent Association and Student Housing.

Police said that the staff member was not hurt.

The building was evacuated while campus police and Columbus officers searched for the robber.  He was not immediately found.

A campus-wide Buckeye Alert was issued, asking people to avoid the area and call 911 if anything suspicious was seen.

According to the alert, police were searching for a black man with a thin build, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a toboggan hat.  He has a gold tooth, police said.

The campus area has had several reports of armed robberies since the academic year started in October.

"We are going to have extra patrols in the area," said Ohio State police Capt. David Rose.  "We are trying to saturate the area with police officers.  I know we've had a collaborative effort with the Columbus police division and they've put a lot of extra resources in the area as well.  I would emphasize that at this point there's nothing that would directly relate this robbery to the others."
