If the presidential campaign is a chess match, then Ohio is the middle of the board.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were scheduled to campaign before a crowd in Lancaster Friday evening. President Obama and Michelle Obama he will be back next week.

As both candidates and their surrogates crisscross the state, it's clear of Ohio's growing importance.

Republicans are watching poll numbers go up and believe they have the Obama team playing a little bit of defense in the state.

One Romney supporter in Lancaster said the debate is still about the economy.

"I mean after three and a half years, no jobs, and all the money spent. It doesn't work," said Joe Ossman.

Romney continues this weekend with stops in Portsmouth and Lebanon. Ryan will be in Youngstown.

Michelle Obama will be in Delaware and Cleveland on Monday.

The president is scheduled to be in Athens on Wednesday.
